I call it ‘RE Lite’ - a skimming of the surface of religions, in order to squeeze in as much basic knowledge as possible, with no threat of going deeper, understanding more, or using any critical faculties at all. And it is when you dig deeper that this surface-level analysis betrays itself not only as poor education, but actually very disrespectful of the traditions concerned.
It’s no exaggeration to say religious education is now the ‘Cinderella’ subject in many schools, and if Prince(ss) Charming doesn’t come along soon, schools' ability to teach high quality, deep and meaningful, religious education and philosophy might be lost.
